| The Tampa Tribune; Saturday, March 4, 1995: Joanne Milani: (Excerpts)
Cast of romantic comedy 'Veronica' stages topical treat Imagine Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sen. Jesse Helms and Robert Mapplethorpe in the same room. Do you hear squabbling? Do you hear explosions? No. What you hear in 'Veronica's Position' now playing at FLorida Studio Theatre, is laughter... The play should come with a warning label: Dangerous to amateurs, do not try to perform this unless you have excellent comic timing and considerable dramatic skills. Luckily, the cst in this production proves uniformly excellent. Led by Kim Crow ... they manage to make Orloff's tricky line land on target every time. Articulate, fast-paced and funnier than reality, Orloff's creation looks at love, art and contemporary politics. On love: 'It's amazing how much men will listen to you if you put your foot down and the rest of you is naked,' gloats Veronica. On art: 'This woman is a work of art. Of course, given some of the things she's done, this work of art would never get government funding.' Do you hear the sardonic ghost of Noel Coward rattling his chains - and chuckling? |
