Kim Crow as Susan in Theatre Conspiracy's 'Becky Shaw'

Kim Crow as Susan in Becky Shaw
Kim Crow as Susan in Becky Shaw
"As Suzanna’s mother, Susan, Kim Crow rules every scene she’s in. Think of the most loving, nurturing mother you know. Susan is the direct opposite. Her scenes are small, but she makes the most of them. And on opening night, she received the most laughs when she talked about the necessity of having “pockets of privacy” within a marriage." nancySTETSON, Florida weekly

 Chris Silk, The Stage Door:
"Professional actress Kim Crow, an Equity member, sparkles as matriarch Susan. She wields the character's cane like the rickety crutch it is - a fragile perch for Susan's illusions. I love the touch of subtlety behind the determined voice of steel, flashing eyes of fire and haughty conniving manner. Think more Constance of Trentham ("Gosford Park") than Downton's redoubtable Dowager Countess."

"Gionfroddo’s play upends popular ideas about love, lying and intimacy. Perhaps secrets and lies are what we need to make our relationships last, after all, (as Kim Crow as Suzanna’s hilariously caustic and blunt mother, Susan suggests. “If you look hard enough at anything – anyone – you will be revolted by what you see.” ... There’s much to like in this Gina Gionfriddo comedy: The playwright creates a compelling situation and peppers it with clever lines and deep thoughts on romance and morality. I love this article by Jamie Painter Young from June 20, 2002 first published in Backstage.com.' Voice Breaks
Experts share their tips on how to get into, and sustain, a career in voiceover.' The market has changed, styles of delivery change, but these good practices are still the core of a long and strong career.

The following is excerpted from of a letter I wrote to an aspiring voice artist way, way back in time (2003). Add a few tweaks and it still works today.

Dear Soon-to-be-VO-Colleague,

Remembering My 'Wit' -  First Production First National Release Pre-Press

We knew we were doing something dangerous. And important. We knew it was hard. We were so hoping it would find an audience. None of us had any idea it would change the way medicine is practiced in this country, that the play would enter the lexicon of Great American Drama (complete with study notes,) and that it has become required reading for health care professionals. I never could have imagined that I would be so honored to continue to play Vivian Bearing over and over and over again. 'How are you feeling today?"

When an audience member writes you after seeing you in performance, you are always touched to your core. You reconnect with why you became an actor in the first place, rededicate yourself to impossible standards of truth-telling and renew your determination to keep on doing it. And sometimes you are even blessed beyond measure.
